Weekend in Logan

We had quite the weekend in Logan. Alisa had not been up in a while and she misses it so it was over due.  We went climbing, went to Bear Lake, went to a wedding, and hung out with family.

Here's my mom kickn' it Rock and Roll Peggy style

What a babe

Here is my cousin Kamie's kid Macy she was super cute!

the G team
I'm telling ya, she's a babe!

It was fun to hang out with Aubry this weekend. She almost wasn't scared of me after a few days.

So the good news was Ryan and Amanda got married! It was a super nice wedding and we are very happy for them.

They were all laughs the whole time. It was cool to see them so happy.

Mount Rainier

*Prepare yourself, this is a long post.
Last weekend we hiked Mount Rainer in Washington State. It was my third time summiting and Casey's fifth. The route we did (Gibraltar Ledges) was my favorite so far, but Casey's favorite is still Liberty Ridge (I missed that trip). Gibraltar Ledges is a very direct, steep, fun route that makes you wonder why you ever went up Disappointment Cleaver. We didn't see any other groups on the route which always makes it a better experience. Everyone we went with did a fabulous job and it was definitely a successful trip.
So this is how it goes:
Day one - hike up to Camp Muir (base camp). The hike starts at 5400 feet and Camp Muir is at 10,188 feet so that is almost an elevation gain of 5000 feet. Having a heavy backpack on your back doesn't help.
Day two - rest day - practice self arresting and rescue procedures if one of us falls in a crevasse.
Day three - start for the summit at 1:00am. It's a good thing it was dark while we were hiking through the ledges, otherwise I might have felt much more exposed. If you fall it is like falling into the depths of Mordor. Scary . . .
We just kept getting higher and higher and we almost reached the top when the sun came up. There's nothing better than watching the sunrise at the top of Mount Rainer. Beautiful.
After we reach the top (elevation 14,411 feet) we hiked back to base camp, packed up all our gear and hiked all the way back down to our cars. It's over a 12 hour day of constant hiking and climbing which leaves you very stinky, tired, ready for a shower and a really yummy dinner.
Here are some pics of the trip.*Sorry these photos are kind of out of order
This is us on our way down. Sometimes you can slide on your butt and it makes it much faster and much more fun!

We could always see Mount Adams and Mount St. Helens in the background. It made the views spectacular!
Little Tahoma Peak ~ This is my favorite peak that you can see while you are hiking.

Ingraham Glacier and Ingraham Flats base camp ~ We camped out here on one or our trips. It has amazing views of Little Tahoma Peak, and lots of sweet crevasses to lower down into and climb out of.

Camp Muir ~ Our tent is the yellow one. Isn't that view of Mount Adams great! We were living the life at this base camp because they actually have porta potties. They were the most foul smelling things but we at least had them. See, if you don't have porta potties then you have to do your business in a bag and carry it down the mountain with you. Sorry, that was a little too much information.
This is our wonderful group of nine. A big group but we were well organized, climbing machines!

Lovely view of the sunrise
We're not tired, I promise. We have a long way to go.

Anyone up for next year's trip?!
By the way. . . Happy 4th of July!

Day at the Park

At the beginning of May, I went to Liberty Park with some of my nieces and nephews, my sister Jen and Bro-in-law Martel. Somehow Martel got roped into the job of pushing kids on this contraption. As other kids saw that he was up for the job, the line began to form and get longer. Martel took his new job very seriously. Pay attention to the end of the clip when Marty busts a kid for cutting in line. I couldn't stop laughing!
*Sorry about the quality. I haven't quite figured out how to post videos

Here are a few photos of the cute kids at the park

Wasatch Back

12 people running 3 legs each + 181 miles + 25 1/2 hours + Logan to Park City + lack of sleep + quality time in a van = The Ragnar Wasatch Back Relay Race!
My  friend Maggie invited me to be part of her all women team made up of some of the members of her running club.  The race was a really fun and challenging experience.  I am convinced I had the best team ever!  They were all super strong runners but most importantly  they were very supportive and positive.  The results are in, we got 7th place in the women's only division!  Way to go Runamok Divas!

Here I am just about to start my first leg.  Oh, the fun is just beginning.  Don't I look fresh and confident?  Yeah, that look didn't last too long.

I really enjoyed the legs I had.  I had some beautiful views (even when I had to run at 4:00am)

Here was our secret weapon. . . Coach Bill!  He coaches the running club and he knows EVERYTHING there is to know about running and fitness.  He volunteered to drive the van, offer council and support, always made sure we were taken care of, and he makes the most amazing recovery drink that I think saved me.  Thanks Coach!

Mt. Olympus

For my dad's 69th birthday my sister Jen and I went on a hike with him. But he didn't want to go on some easy going leisurely hike, he wanted to hike to the top of Mount Olympus. If you've done this hike then you know that it's long and strenuous both going up and down. It's not for the faint of heart. But my 69 year old dad hiked it like a champ! No matter how many years he adds to his age, he will forever be a young-hearted (even immature), adventurous, energetic man who is always excited to get out there and be active and explore. I'm proud of you dad! Now all we need to do is Lone Peak, Twin Peak, and Mt. Timp. Start training . . .

Little Red Riding Hood

School got out two weeks ago and time is already going by way too fast.  This is the first summer in quite a while that I'm not leaving the country for a long period of time, so I had to pick up a new hobby.  I bought a road bike almost a month ago and I love it!  It's a great break from running and I love how much further I can go on a bike and how much more I can see.
My mom, my sisters Jen and Suzanne, and my sister-in-law Nanette did the Little Red Riding Hood cycling event last weekend with me.  It was in Logan and we rode 80 miles!  It was so much fun (a little uncomfortable by the end) and it made me miss Logan even more.  It was gorgeous and  such a perfect place to ride.  Next year we will for sure ride the full 100 miles!

Angie & Ronnie's wedding

So got to photograph Angie's bridals the other day. Angie is like a little sister to me so I was super excited to do these. Anyways, Ronnie is awesome and they are a great couple.

I've been waiting until after their wedding to put these up, just in case Ronnie came across them.

I shot these with a 1ds mark II and a 1600 watt battery powered strobe. I also had three great assistants to help out.

I already added these to my photography site

Southern Utah this weekend

So we climbed in St. George's Cathedral area this last weekend. Temps were nice. It is really in the middle of nowhere.

We also got to hang with my brother and sisters kids at the pool. Pretty to climb and hit the pool in the same day!

Happy Memorial Day!

Hey all, we went up City Creek Canyon on Monday with the Hosenfelds. It rained the whole time but it was really pretty. Alisa had to be burley and run all the way down from the top to Jared & Nan's apartment. Anyways, it's super pretty up here right now.

A few more from the River trip

OK, I know there was no river in the last one...... anyways, here are a few more. I'll try to post some of the people shots soon. I'm right in the middle of two big side projects.

The one is up one of the side canyons (Bodie?). The other is out the window of the small airplane that we flew back to Moab in.

Cataract Canyon River Trip

Here are some of the many photos we just took on our river trip down the Colorado River in Canyon Lands down Cataract Canyon. More coming soon.  We went with the Hosenfelds and it was a perfect family vacation.  Thanks so much mom and dad for taking  us.  We had a lot of fun floating down the river, hiking, camping, and experiencing the rapids of Cataract.

Good time in the studio

Got a photo shoot coming up and we were experimenting with some light at work. I thought this was kind of cool
